Description

The 1/2″ L-Type Service Valve (commonly referred to as a stop valve, base valve, or liquid/suction line valve) is a solid brass mechanical fitting mounted directly to the external chassis of an air conditioner or heat pump’s outdoor condensing unit. This valve controls the flow of refrigerant through a 1/2 inch copper line set. It features a heavy-duty forged brass body paired with a pre-bent, right-angle (90 ∘ ) copper extension tube designed to make brazing onto the system lines clean and straightforward. It includes a brass cap protecting a Schrader service access port, allowing HVAC technicians to attach gauge manifolds to safely measure pressure, evacuate lines, or charge refrigerant into the system. Technical Specifications Size Connection: 1/2 inch ODF (Sweat/Deoxidized Flare) Body Design: L-Type (90 ∘ Right-Angle bend tube) Material: Forged Brass body with a copper pipe extension Internal Mechanism: Hex-key (Allen wrench) operated internal valve stem to safely open or isolate the refrigerant loop Pressure Compatibility: High-pressure rated for modern R-410A and R-32 systems, as well as legacy R-22 setups Compatible Brands & Systems Refrigerant service valves are standardized by copper pipe plumbing dimensions rather than specific appliance brands. A 1/2 inch line size is most commonly utilized as the suction (gas) line on smaller tonnage systems, or the liquid line on high-capacity commercial setups. 1. Typical System Capacities This valve framework is universally found on mini-split and central split systems matching: 9,000 BTU to 12,000 BTU (0.75 to 1.0 Ton) systems (where 1/2″ serves as the main suction line). Certain high-capacity multi-zone light commercial systems. 2. Supported HVAC Brands This style of valve is utilized across virtually all major regional and global air conditioning manufacturers, including: LG Samsung Midea Gree Carrier / Bryant Daikin / Goodman Voltas / Lloyd Essential Installation Checklist: During the installation process, it is critical to remove the internal Schrader valve core and wrap the brass valve body in a wet rag before applying a torch to braze the copper tube extension. If the brass body gets too hot, the internal Teflon and rubber seals will permanently melt, ruining the valve and causing a permanent refrigerant leak. Always ensure the outer hex cap is wrench-tightened after service to prevent micro-leaks.
